1. Main Function of Job
The main function of this role is the re-development of an online accounting system for small and medium sized businesses based on an existing application. The existing system has thousands of paying subscribers all over the world, most of whom are small and medium sized businesses. The existing “classic asp†based system is reaching the end of its life and in order to deliver a brandable true multi-currency and multi language application that is robust, secure, performant and scalable, it is being redeveloped in Microsoft .NET, HTML5 and JavaScript.
2. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide mentoring and support for other developers. Assist in motivating and inspiring the development team.
3. Main Duties/Responsibilities:
We require an experienced, passionate and professional developer with significant knowledge of Microsoft technologies. The team uses the Agile Scrum methodology, delivering rapid development through iterative cycles with the business owners. This role has responsibility for analyzing requirements, provision of Story Point estimates, solution design and development of code through iterative cycles. The role will involve liaison with the business owners to analyse requirements and to demonstrate application functionality at each iterative cycle.
Specific duties are:-
o Assist in analysis, architecture, design and development, testing and implementation and support of .NET applications.
o Provide estimates for development work and deliver in line with commitments.
o Involvement in the configuration and implementation of applications based upon Microsoft products/platforms such as .NET, SQL Server etc
o Taking an active role in building and contributing to the .NET team to assist in:
o Input into improving practices and procedures
o Development of standards, collateral and service offerings
4. Technical Content of Work/Skills Required:
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years commercial experience designing and building web applications on Microsoft technologies. The candidate is expected to have a broad knowledge of enterprise level infrastructure, platforms, middleware technologies, databases and application servers.
5. Required skills
Given the nature of the project, in particular, the candidate should have solid recent experience in developing web applications.
o Sound multi-tier application architecture and development using Microsoft technology.
o Demonstrable development lifecycle understanding.
o Solid understanding of Object-Oriented design and methodologies.
o Thorough understanding of Microsoft Development platforms and tools with specific focus on .NET technologies.
o Minimum 2 years commercial experience of ASP.NET, C#.
o Sound understanding and experience with XML, ADO.NET
o Experience with JQuery or similar technologies.
o An understanding of .NET 3.5/4.0 technologies such as Windows Communication Foundation.
o The principles and practice of Web Services and Service Oriented Architectures.
o Good knowledge of application testing, including unit tests and test driven development.
o Minimum of 2 years commercial experience of Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008.
o A working knowledge of developing smooth running HTML based UI using JavaScript and AJAX to enhance user experiences and improve performance.
o Knowledge or working experience on REST architecture
6. Good to have skills
o Designing UI using HTML and CSS
o Knowledge or working experience on HTML5 and JavaScript.
o Knowledge or working experience on OAuth.
7. Desirable Competencies:
o Enterprise architectural models including familiarity and application of patterns.
o A working knowledge of Windows Server products.
o Security knowledge from an application perspective (e.g. Authentication using certificates).
o Experience or knowledge of Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
8. Personal Competencies:
o Excellent communications skill, at both a technical and non-technical level.
o Excellent investigation and problem solving skills.
